Low Disturbance Machinery for Spring Sowing

Looking to have less impact on your soils this spring? With Grange Machinery specialising in low surface disturbance and Novag in no-tillage, we have the tools tailored to your sowing needs.

Grange Machinery

The spring sowing process can involve heavy machinery on your paddocks, which can cause hidden damage to soil structure. Specialising in low surface disturbance soil management tools, our Grange Machinery range is here for all your cultivation needs. These machines will help you address your compaction issues and allow you to direct drill or manage crop establishment with ease.

The Grange Machinery Low Disturbance range comes in loosener, toolbar and removable packer roller forms. The Low Disturbance Loosener (LDL) was designed based on farmer feedback. Lifting the soil and working to a depth of 30cm, its primary function is to loosen the soil structure after harvest and break any compaction pan. The Grange LDL is available in 4m, 5m and 6m with a packer of choice to enable a level, weatherproof finish for drilling.

The Grange Low Disturbance Toolbar (LDT) is both universal and adaptable. It can be used with various machines, including a drill, cultivator, or press. The LDT loosens the soil before the following implement passes over it, loosening any compacted zone and allowing the following machinery to work with ease. Available in 3m, 4m, and 6m varieties, the LDT is highly adaptable. The 6m machine has folding cultivating legs, automatically reducing its width to 3m machine on headlands and turns.

Grass Land Loosener

The Grange Grass Land Loosener (GLL) is designed to alleviate compaction in the soil, shattering and removing subsurface compaction to improve drainage and allow air into the soil whilst carefully managing minimal damage to the sword on the surface. Incorporating Grange low disturbance legs and points, the GLL provides a full-width shatter with minimal surface disturbance. It also uses front-cutting discs to prevent soil buildup in front of the legs and maintain surface continuity. The GLL is the perfect all-round tool to manage compacted soils in both arable and grassland applications with minimal surface disturbance.

Strip-till Preparator

For those farmers establishing maize or similar precision-planted crops, the Grange Strip-Till Preparator has been specifically developed to establish row crops in a strip-till system. Tightly defined cultivated strips are created by hydraulically adjusted cultivation discs, combined with a low disturbance tine and point. These are followed by a Guttler prism roller ring to break down clods and consolidate the rows. Working at a depth of 30cm and available in 50 or 75cm row configurations, this machine is available in 3m, 4m, 4.5m and 6m working widths.

Novag

Cutting costs out of your sowing process and protecting your soil for future crop success are key focuses every year. Direct drilling is one way to meet both goals, and the Novag T-ForcePlus no-till drill is the tool for the job. Novag is masterclass in low disturbance, no tillage and reducing the loss of carbon and moisture from your soil. Novag T-Force Plus drills use the T-SlotPlus opener to create an inverted T-shaped slot with minimal surface-soil disturbance.  Novag’s IntelliForcePlus electro-hydraulic system automatically regulates opener downforce, responding rapidly to changing soil conditions to maintain consistent and accurate seeding depth. Studies have shown clear benefits of reduced soil disturbance, building soil structure and resilience in both wet and dry conditions.

The benefits of low-disturbance no-tillage are well documented over the last 20+ years, with farmers experiencing more resilient cropping systems and higher yields. This is achieved by more biologically active soils, higher organic matter levels, more moisture retentive soils, improved natural drainage, and less soil losses from wind and water erosion.

Not only is the soil benefiting, but your cashflow is too! No-tillage means significant savings in machinery capital and operating costs, time savings resulting in less lost days for livestock grazing and crop growth, and opportunity for more strategic fertiliser formulations and placement, resulting in reduced fertiliser costs and losses.

Still hesitant about change and whether no-tillage is for you? Carrfields are here to make the transition smooth. With years of expertise in low-disturbance systems and our network of successful farmers, we have the knowledge and support you need to transition to next generation farming with this future-proof technology.
