Tidy Friesian & Friesian Cross Herd, DNA recorded
Suggested Price (ex GST) $$3,400.00Description of StockThis tidy Friesian and Friesian Cross herd has been carefully developed over the past five seasons and presents an excellent opportunity to secure a well-managed, high-performing dairy herd. Run on flat to rolling country that can experience both wet winters and dry summers, the cows have been bred and managed for resilience, fertility and functionality. The herd is DNA profiled with both G3 and GEv recording, providing buyers with confidence in breeding information and future herd development. Animal health and nutrition are a major focus, with MultiMin injections administered pre-calving and post-mating, along with minerals fed through the in-shed meal system. The herd achieved an impressive 6.7% empty rate last season, reflecting the attention to detail given to both management and mating. The vendors operate a practical and proven milking system. All first-calving heifers are milked once-a-day for the entire season. Mature cows are milked once-a-day during the three weeks leading into mating, twice-a-day through to Christmas, then once-a-day post-Christmas as summer conditions tighten. The herd is continually strengthened through selective purchases from the annual Finch In-Milk Sale, where quality cows are sourced to complement and improve the existing herd. A bespoke mating programme is used each season, incorporating 4 to 5 weeks of AB with Friesian and Jersey genetics. During the first two weeks of AB, two sexed semen straws are used daily, reducing to one sexed semen straw daily on the third week. Hereford bulls are then used as markers, followed by short gestation Hereford AB genetics to tighten the calving pattern and maintain herd efficiency. Bulls remain with the herd through until 22 December. With strong fertility, comprehensive animal health management, genomic recording and a practical farm system focused on cow longevity and performance, this herd represents a genuine opportunity for buyers seeking the complete herd package. In-Calf heifers are also available.
